Producer, screenwriter and now events organiser.

Leah Robinson

On Wednesday the 23rd of January, I organised my own launch party to celebrate Robinson Freelance and the accomplishments its had!

What an incredible evening. Speaking to new and old faces alike, and gaining some incredible contacts to take me on the next part of my journey.

Organising your own event isn't easy. Luckily I had the advice and knowledge of a great events organiser, Julie Brown, who also happens to be my mother. This was a music orientated event, and even though Ms Brown organised food and health events, the same rules still applied. Transitioning between ideas for my event, I realised that the face of every event might be different, but the foundations remain the same.

You need a strong marketing objective, and a solid idea of a target audience. Maybe's don't come into the equation, because it brings doubt. Do your research, and know what you want, it makes it a lot easier to organise. Once you've successfully done this, then let the ideas flow. I had so many ideas for this event, and 70% of them I didn't use. Partly because of funding, or they were too outrageous. There's no harm thinking big, save it for the next event, but for the first one keep it simple, use strategies that you know WILL work.

Around 45 people came to the event, they had drinks, danced to some great music and competed in a raffle I organised. It was fantastic. Guaranteed the whole day I kept panicking about numbers, and it turned out even better than I expected.

If you're organising your own event for whatever reason, have a positive attitude, because without it you won't succeed.

My website will be having a makeover soon, so keep an eye out for new projects! Don't be afraid to get in contact.
