SURREY YOUTH LEAGUE TRAINING DAY

Leah Robinson

On the 10th of September 2017, I went out of my comfort zone completely as a freelancer. Surrey Youth League were holding a training day for U7's and U8's coaches, and I was asked to film the event and create a short video showcasing the activities at the end of the day.

I was incredibly nervous, my first paid freelancing job on a subject that I had little knowledge about! However during the day, seeing these coaches talk amongst each other about young people's football was incredibly interesting. Youth football was all about making sure the children understood the nature and passion of the sport, with some added completion also!

Looking back on the footage that I had gathered was inspiring. The 'speed dating' activity at the beginning of the day consisted of 3 groups working out different scenarios on Youth football. The groups would switch places after 10 minutes each time. Every group worked well together, speaking about their own experiences as coaches and as parents as well.

The second portion of the day was an outdoor activity, the trainee coaches watched U7's and U8's train, and then play a small game of football. The leaders of the activity would walk past and ask them to point out anything they had noticed, and there were plenty of questions being asked. I really enjoyed listening and filming this event, because personally, I learnt more about the field of football, and also the amount of effort and structure that goes into every session is phenomenal. It's all about children learning how to be respectful, but also what it takes to be a good footballer.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day at Surrey Youth League, and I can't wait to do some more projects with Surrey FA. It was fun doing something new, and I'm glad everyone on the day enjoyed the video!

Please leave comments, and take a look at some of my other productions!
